The project, from HBO alum Michael Ellenberg, is poised to hit the marketplace in the coming weeks and be shopped to premium cable networks and streaming services. More than a decade after Friends wrapped its run, star Jennifer Aniston is plotting her return to the small screen.

In one of the largest TV packages to date, Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are attached to star in an untitled series exploring morning shows and the larger New York media scene that they inhabit.

The package, which has not yet hit the market, is expected to be taken out to premium cable outlets like HBO and streaming services including Netflix. Given the stars attached, it is expected to draw significant interest from multiple bidders.

The project is based on an original idea and is being spearheaded by former HBO head of drama Michael Ellenberg and his newly launched film and TV production company Media Res. Jay Carson (House of Cards) is attached to pen the script. Academy Award nominee Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, Harry Potter) will executive produce. Witherspoon will also executive produce alongside her Hello Sunshine banner topper Lauren Levy Neustadter. Aniston also will be credited as an executive producer.

As reported before, Reese was honored this year at the 29th American Cinematheque Awards. Friends, co-stars and family (including her kids) were present for the honor. On stage, Jennifer Aniston was the first presenter of the night, calling Reese‘s performance in The Man in the Moon “absolutely extraordinary.”

“Reese Witherspoon’s career is a perfect example of an actress flourishing in today’s world. She achieved commercial success early in comedies like Election, Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama and then added major critical success to her resume with movies such as Walk the Line, for which she received the Academy award for best actress,” Rick Nicita, American Cinematheque chairman, said of the choice to honor the actress.

“She has refused to be limited to only certain types of roles and has continued to impress with her varied choices, ranging from smaller roles in dramas such as Mud to a tour-de-force, Oscar-nominated performance last year in Wild. She is an active and successful movie producer who is moving her career forward both behind and in front of the camera. The most appropriate role for Reese Witherspoon today is role model.”

Any Friends fan will know that Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s relationship goes back, way back in fact and it seems that the two actresses have been finding it difficult to reconnect on the screen ever since.

Roz Weston sat down with the lovely Aniston over the weekend to chat about her new film Horrible Bosses 2, but ended up chatting about a Reese reconnection as well!

“God dammit Reese,” Jennifer says to the camera adding, “we have been trying forever,” after being asked whether or not she and the “Wild” star will reconnect sometime soon.

The actress says the only thing holding them back is the right project. “It’s hard because you want it to be good,” Aniston tells Roz, adding a line that every “Friends” fan will love: “she’s my little sister so we have to find a way to make it really awesome and we will.”

Meanwhile, Aniston has been busy promoting her indie project Cake, taking the film through the film festival circuit where not only the film but her role garnered Oscar buzz.
